Stay up to date with all things happening within the SACDG.
Today the SACDG remains the pillar of cake decorating in South Africa. We strive to maintain our high standards, improve our "visibility" to the general public, increase our membership and promote our assessments to those people who want to teach, or become judges of cake decorating.
Our assessments are of a very high standard with the purpose of qualifying people as instructors (teachers) or judges, in cake decorating.
The Guild has branches countrywide where members attend monthly meetings to share their skill, knowledge and love of Sugarcraft with one another. Membership is open to all who are interested in Cake decorating, from complete beginners to experts.
Shows, Exhibitions and Demonstration Days are regularly held throughout the country to showcase the exquisite works of Sugar Art created by members of the Guild.
Guild members can attend meetings at any of the branches (contact the branch to find out what the demonstration fee of the day you are attending would be).
Qualified teachers can advertise in Sugarcraft Magazine. Membership entitles you to 3 publications of our Sugar craft Magazine, filled with information about what's happening in the Guild. There are pages on skills, innovative ideas and techniques, photographs of Sugar Art Creations by members in full colour. You will also have access to exclusive shops owned by our members that supply our sugarcraft equipment and products.
The opportunity to learn from skilled demonstrators at the monthly meetings, and information on workshops throughout the year.
Up-skill yourself through the workshops that are organised by the branches throughout the year.
Events throughout the year often include demonstration days organised by some of the branches, which include a day filled with different demonstrations. These events have cake/decorating, equipment/product suppliers attending and showing off their products. This is also an opportunity to network with fellow cake and decorating enthusiasts.
Not being able to partake in the annual show at the Royal Agricultural Society in Pietermaritzburg didn't take away the sugar rush for members of the South African Cake Decorators guild.
The SACDG Pinetown branch came up with a creative idea to build a map of Africa using icing sugar paste. Members were divided into colour-coded area. Each group was given the task to create flowers, leaves, or butterflies using short wires or toothpicks as the base. They were each allocated an approximate space of 50 square centimetres, but enthusiasm ran high, and the members exceeded expectations, contributing enough decorations to cover the entire map which measured 1.2m high and 1 meter at its widest point.
This project also served as a membership drive, aimed at encouraging new decorators and enthusiast to join the South African Cake Decorators guild family.
